a little windy and poor seeing last night, so I got out the binoculars and finished the remaining Messier objects I needed to qualify for the astronomical league binocular certificate. What a great observing program! This turned out to be more fun than expected, and it only took a handful of observing sessions. I definitely recommend this for those of you who don't want to pull out the big scope on a less than average night but also do not want to waste a new moon dark sky.

Congrats on the Bino Messiers. Most of the A.L. Deepsky Bino targets are just as satisfying in a scopefield as well.
While we're on it the Master Observers Network (MONet) is up and running for those with specific questions about the A.L. Observe Clubs.

Congrats on the Bino Messier!
If you liked the Bino Messier, the next program you should work on is the Bino Deep Sky. 60 great non-Messier objects!
Oh and just FYI, when you start the League's Messier program, you do have to re-observe the Messiers over again with a telescope.

Scott, you just sent me an e-mail confirming my Messier certificate! but yes, I used a telescope for that one. I have done a few of the deep sky binocular items, but I like less because you must observe all of the items and there is no choice to allow for doing more in one season than another. Still, it is neat. I will probably concentrate on the globular list now.

Congrats, I always find it very rewarding to find difficult objects with my binos. Im just hooked on the ease of use and enjoyment out of binocular astronomy.

Very nice. I take it though that you don't need to observe all of the Messier objects for this certificate. It is possible to see them all with 10 X 50 binos from dark locations. Why don't you just continue on down the path you have already started?
When I decided to do the Messiers with my binos it was because a very experienced observer told me it was possible. I'd just have them handy when I was observing with my scope. Then when I'd remember and the conditions were right, I'd add a few more to the observation log. It took a little less than 9 months to complete. Some were extremely tough. Final object was M77.
Congratulations on your certificate.

That's correct Bill. In fact, only 50 Ms are required. Rules and regs: http://www.astroleague.org/al/obsclubs/binomess/binomess.html
