I tried some new materials on this one (Derwent Graphitint white pencil on 9"x12" Mi-Teintes black paper). For more details see the Graphitint thread.
This was also first-light for my new Sol Ranger finder. Beats the heck out of having to get up and look at the shadow of the front etalon on the tilt adjuster every time I lose the sun -- not only does it deliver the sun in the field with a 5.5mm effective-length eyepiece, it's also easier not to get up when the sketch pad and pencils, erasers, etc. are on my lap.
Anyway, here's the goods:

Thanks, everyone!
I forgot to mention that I tried a new "dithering" technique on the last two -- basically a random walk of very small squiggles with an extremely light touch on the pencil. I think it worked out well -- achieves the same smoothing effect as using a blending stump, but leaving a bit more texture or "liveliness" to the image.
Cheers, -- Jeff.

Jeff, your solar sketches just get better and better. Beautifully rendered!
BTW, I have some carpet to lay down now on my side of the observatory as well as put in some more evergreen shrubs on the southern foundation of it to help out with heat. Thanks for the suggestion with the extra shrubs. It should really help out over time.

Thanks, Erika! I think I might try one of them in the sketching contest next month. Although I have a great M3 lined up as well....
"...on my side of the observatory..."? Is this a his and hers deal?
Cheers, -- Jeff.

Your DSO sketches are top notch too. I've been struggling with star placement and magnitudes more than anything, but I've gradually been improving. At least I'm having fun trying.
Yes, my husband has one side of the observatory and I've got the other. Although we share equipment, we've also pretty much got that broken down into his and hers as well since our tastes/needs are different. He's an imager, I'm completely visual.
I love it that we have a few hobbies in common, yet still have our own separate interests within them.
