There is a great range of rafractors coming to the Golden State Star Party next new moon. Vic Maris, owner of Stellarvue has just registered. GSSP is in far northeast California. There are a few deadlines coming up in a week, but registration closes midnight June 28th. URL in my sig.
Clear skies,

Did Vic say he was bringing the SV160? If so I expect LOTS of pics.

With all those big Dobs there won't be any photons left for the refractors.

I wish i was still a kid. I used to live in Lakeview, OR. Which isn't that far from Adin. That's when i learned to love astronomy from my High School science teacher who had a love himself and convinced the schoolboard to fund a 1 semester class on "Rocket Science". We spent 1 quarter on rockets and the other on astronomy.
I only bring this up to state that anyone who has a chance to go to this should definitely do so. It's a lovely area with amazingly dark sky, something that is getting harder to find. I remember looking through my teacher's 4" refractor (don't remember what brand, we never discussed, only that he spent about $5,000 dollars on it and the mount, and this was in early 90's cash) and the views were just as good or better then what i see in my 12" reflector these days simply because of the light pollution i have to live with.

Thanks, Forrest... I was very lucky to be there last August, during the peak of the Perseids. The sky was dark enough to give you the feeling you can't see the ground. I don't find too many places like that anymore. Bumpass Hell parking lot at Lassen was similar. I guess I can count the places like that, that I've been to in California, on two fingers ;-)

Hey Daniel,
There's always next year. This is the first year for the star party at this new site. It already has over 300 atttendees registered, so it looks promising. Next year, the event organization will turn its attention to vendors and speakers. Vic Maris' being there for Stellarvue is kind of just luck of the draw, he lives only a few hours south.

Yeah, plans are always subject to change. Vis is registered as an attendee, and posted here on his local astro-list yesterday about attending.

Darn. I'm an ex TACO now living in MA. I attended GSSP last year and it was a great time, except for all the rain. I hope the weather is good for you guys this year.

LOL! At Lassen? I don't remember any rain. I guess the good times just washed those memories away! ;-)
