Hello, has anyone ever seen this galaxy cluster in the constelation Virgo, it lies about 2 billion lys from Earth, and the brightest members, well I don't know, I can't find any estmates on the internet, these galaxies light are being warped from the galaxies in front, and there are thousands of galaxies in this cluster, and the farthest ones lies at 13 billion lys, the lense is about 2 million lys across, the background galaxies light looks like it's bent in pictures, and it creates the galaxies to look like rays or streaks, have you seen this object, and what is the minumum aperture that it can be detected?...clear skies...Jorgen

Brightest member around 17. I think this is a cluster for the really big scopes, like that 48.9" that just got installed down in Texas.

Hmmmm... what about these image-intensifier devices? What kinda aperture, thusly equipped, would it take to visually discern this?

This topic was started in both the reflectors and deep sky observing forum, and probably needs to be merged.

Mike, ACO 1689 was visible in my 25" but not my 18", if that gives you any idea.

Thanks, John- i presume you mean using "standard" vision. My ? re: the image-intensifiers was the topic of another thread (Denk's new BVer intensifier, soon to be released- IIRC), so there's a whole lotta mergin' goin' on here!

FWIW, i am in no way inclined to obtain such a device myself- 'tis not my bag- but was asking purely from curiosity.

BTW, congrats on gettin' the 25-inch up & running!
