For CN members who live in the United States, Thierry Legault and Serge Brunier's New Atlas of the Moon has shown up at Half-Price bookstores (at least the three in our area). I noticed half a dozen copies in each store, which suggests the book has been distributed to all their stores. It is being sold at $19.95, originally $55. This is an absolute steal for what is probably the most user-friendly lunar guide ever published.
It includes terrific Legault images with a double-page layout for every day of the lunation. Right hand pages are given over to a full, inverted image of the phase (as it would appear in a Newtonian). Half of these, every other day, include a transparent overlay labeling important features. The lefthand page includes a mirror-image view and a binocular view (in smaller scale) along with info about the current phase and other information about the moon. The overlay labels are indexed against the second half of the atlas, which provides detailed images and information about the specified features. The feature detail entries also include lunar map thumbnails indicating the precise location the feature. Each feature includes both binocular and telescopic descriptions.
The $19.95 price is half what the book is selling for on Amazon.
