I need some answers. When one has an observatory do you leave the telescope in it during extreme weather conditions? For instance, when the temperature reaches 10 degrees or below, or 102 degrees and above. Is the area that the scope is in climate controlled (air conditioned or heated) during these extremes? Thanks for any advice.

I leave my telescopes in the obs all the time, even during extreme weather. I have recently providing heating and A/C for the obs, but it wasn't because of the temp. I was more concerned about the humidity.

My Scope remains in the observatory 24/7 year round..PERIOD
Cold I am not worried about as anything below zero is pretty rare when I live BUT HEAT and especially HUMIDITY are another matter ...
I run a de humidifier to keep humidity under control .. and
I do not get too excited until the Interior temps reach 15 degrees above ambient outside temps ..which it did last week during the heat wave... Since then I just stuck a box window fan in the trap door to my observatory sucking air OUT and much to my surprise I am now seeing inside Temps of no more the 3-4 degrees above ambient... Next step is to remove the box fan and find a small squirrel cage blower to install that I can hook up a thermostat to...
I do not want to fry the electronics... and even though Velcro is a wonderful thing...the glue on the Velcro melts way too easy... LOL

I leave my telescopes and all accessories in the observatories year round. Both observatoies are in north temperate zones and run fom high to low temperatures with rain and snow. I have not had any problems in the last 28 years. Also, I do not build the observatoies to the same level of insulation or HVAC as my house. A small heater or fan work well,
