Observing DVDs new
      #2230052 - 03/01/08 09:01 PM

Anyone know of any DVDs out there on general observing for those beginning in the hobby? Our club does movie nights and would like to show a DVD that pertains to that topic. How about any good DVDs on constellations and the sky?

Somehow I missed seeing this. I have no answers, but if I missed it, others may have done so. Let's give it another try.

BTW - We recently showed "Seeing in the Dark" by Timothy Ferris. It was well received and was a great film but it was not quite what we were looking for.

Well, I don't know about a DVD, but there is the AAVSO video tape entitled "Hands-on Astrophysics"

Hi John,

I know Space.com does a series of DVDs and one in particular on Comets and Meteors is quite good in conveying the thrill of meteor observing.

Armagh Planetarium over here do a couple of DVDs on basic stargazing but I can't remember their titles off-hand.

Send me a mail with your home address (to aurorawatcher at gmail dot com) and I will post you about 8 CDs I've kept from back issues of the UK's Sky at Night magazine. They contain recent episodes of the BBC programme along with various other bit's 'n' pieces. All should play in QuickTime and are not region dependant.

atb,

John

Hi John,

I haven't come across any more recent observing DVDs. Did you send me a mail at any stage about the Sky at Night CDs? I accidentally deleted some of my unread gmail recently. Unfortunately, I've already given the CDs to one of the local schools in Dublin to help their astronomy club get established.

All the best,

john

Thanks. Unfortunately I never got around to contacting you. I'm still looking though. Too bad there isn't a DVD on beginning observing out there.
