Carl ,

Thanks for that very upbeat first light report .

You are not the first member here to have given a positive report of this 15 x 63 model .

The fact your wife approves of further binocular purchases is a bonus that several readers may well be slightly envious of , too ! :-)

All the best in Tahoe ! -- I look forward to reading your observing report from there with this 15 x 63 .

Regards
Kenny

Very nice report
Very nice wife

Size isn't the only thing to consider
EdZ's past reports on the Fujinon 16x70mm FMT-SX binoculars show that quality will sometimes out preform size, as he has seen more stars in the 16x70mm than in some 20x80mm binoculars.
The Fujinon's have larger prisms and EBC/Electron Beam Coatings which transmit 95+% of the light to your eyes.

In my research I became aware of these puppies and that was my first choice but only in the high end version of Garrett/orion/oberwerk at half the price. I was set to purchase them when I realized they were not center focused, I just assumed all binoculars were center focused. I really wanted center focus because I live a few hundred yards from a bird reserve and needed bins I could focus quickly. The gemini series had center focus but since the orion 15x63 were on sale and considerably cheaper I went with those. I'm not sure how much of a pop I would gain by getting the 15x70 resolux (non center focus) versions as my next pair since they would only be used for astronomy but that's a little ways off from now and it might become obvious when I'm ready for round two. Carl

I'm assuming the "yikes" is in reference to the quality and not the 2 grand price tag My friend owns a store in Mendocino cal. called "Out Of This World" that specializes in high end binoculars. I'm overdue for a visit so I will definitely check out those binoculars when I visit. I could be wrong but when my wife encouraged me to buy a bigger pair of bins, she didn't have these in mind, hehehehe. Carl

Carl, you'll have to call ahead to your friend, as his website doesn't show the SLC 15x56.

Thanks for the heads up, didn't even know he had a website. Lots of other goodies to look through so it wouldn't be a total loss. Going to Cabela's sporting goods store next week, they carry hundreds of binoculars and they don't even carry the slc 15x56. I guess Swarovski sells a lot of binoculars from reputation alone.

Ahhh, I saw those but ddn't recognize them because they only had the SLC part and not the 15x56. I'm looking forward to looking through them along with the other bins.
Wifey is excited too because she wants to pick up a compact
pair of bins for when she goes to plays. I guess we can rule out the Leica's. I asked what she wanted in a binocular and she said "something cute"..........
