Welcome to Celestial Events.
This forum is slightly different from the rest of the CN forums. It's intent is not to share experiences or socialize, but rather to disseminate news of current and upcoming sky events. To help reflect this philosophy threads which have not been active for more than than 7 days will be automatically hidden.
Feel free to post to this forum, however please be aware that it is a moderated forum, and posts will not appear until they have been approved by a moderator who has verified they fit the intended content for this forum.
Title your event postings as follows:
Event - Date - Time
EX: Aurora Visible - 11/8/04 - 3:00AM UTC
EX: Aurora Predicted - 11/7,8,9/04
EX: Lunar Ecllipse - 11/12,13/08
If referenceing another source, please do not copy that source verbatim, rather simply sum it up and provide a link to the article in full.
For those of you not familiar with UTC here are the following zones for the USA
UTC-10 = HST, Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time
UTC-9 = AKST, Alaska Standard Time
UTC-8 = PST, Pacific Standard Time
UTC-7 = MST, Mountain Standard Time
UTC-6 = CST, Central Standard Time
UTC-5 = EST, Eastern Standard Time
UTC-4 = AST, Atlantic Standard Time
UTC does not follow DST, so you will also need to adjust for DST if/when applicable.

The goal of the Celestial Events forum is to serve as an astronomical-event alert board. The idea of operating it being that people could subscribe to the forum to receive alerts by e-mail. This is one of the reasons this is a moderated forum.
To achieve this goals, remember these simple rules: - don't make posts asking for precisions here; do it in one of the "Observing" forums. - don't make posts just to thank the poster for the information; for the first time, we ask you to be silently grateful. - don't post your own observations of the event; again, do it in the corresponding "Observing" forum or in the astrophoto galleries. - limit posts to announcing unusual and unexpected phenomena: aurorae, novae, comets and asteroids with a very short observing "window". If you discover a gamma-ray burst, we'll take that, too. - you can post "updates" on a thread, if the event is evolving in an unexpected manner, or if you are adding a precision to what is already in the thread.
Thanks in advance for both the moderators and the readers.
