Semi-Rare Meteorites Price Per Gram
      #2490264 - 06/29/08 06:20 PM

I was wondering if I could get a little help.

Since I am still a Newbie in Meteorite Collecting,I am asking for a little help.I am looking to find a couple of Semi-Rare Meteorites that have an affordable price per gram.

I also need to know that it is not too hard to find some of these meteorite pieces for sale.

I would Love To Purchase the Very Rare meteorites but could not afford it on my limited budget.

I Am Open To Any and All Suggestions. Thanks for Taking The Time To Read This Post.

Hi Todd,

There could be several ways to do this. Micro, or sub-gram specimens of lunar, mars, or for that matter any rare meteorite are more friendly to the wallet. A lunar that goes for $1,000+ per gram is a lot easier on your budget if you buy a piece weighing less then 100 milligrams.

Same goes for "Holy Grail" meteorites like Nakhla or Ensisheim. You don't need to get the whole enchilada if a small piece is what would make you happy. But then, it's all a matter of personal taste.

You can start a nice collection and add to it over time. No need for instant gratification. You can even buy a small specimen of one meteorite, and later on obtain a larger piece, and perhaps selling your smaller specimen to another new collector.

Do any specific specimens come to mind for you, or are you just thinking out your plan?

Thanks for the reply,Ed.

I have a pretty nice micro-mount collection.I have an Ensisheim micro,I have about 5grams of NWA 1877(Olivine Diogenite)I have a couple of Holbrook micros,as well as 2 Moss micros.
I also have several Howardite,and Aubrite micros,I have 3 Mars micros,along with 4 lunar micros (1 of which is NEA 001).I have Brenham,Odessa,Cape York,Murchison,Libyan Desert Glass,Canyon Diablo,NWA unclassifieds,and even NWA 1459(olivine Diogenite),and including Gibeon and Claxton.

I have more micro mounts then these but Some are not really important enough to list.My heavyweight piece is a 112gram Canyon Diablo.I also have a 104 gram and 48 gram Canyon Diablo on the way.

I really like Olivine Diogenite, but they are a little pricey and not always easy to find.So I do look down the very long list of MeteoriteLabels.Com and see several I would like to own,but most of these I have never seen for sale(or at least at a price I can afford).

So I guess for now I can continue obtaining micro-mounts as well as inexpensive large display pieces. Thanks Again for the Help and Ideas Ed.
