Need some advise for MC settings new
      #2491482 - 06/30/08 11:18 AM

I'm at the Heart Of America Star Party with my new MC, having a great time. Getting allot of the WOW factor. Also may have done my part in at least 2 sale coming up in the future:-)
Looking at all the best objects, M 57, 51, 82,16 Trifid, Swan, several galaxy clusters. Have had very good results except with objects like the cats eye, the veil nebula with 52 Cyg. Seems bright objects seem to burn out and over expose. I have all the settings like the examples recommend. I have adjusted the gain with no results. I'm just using 7 , and 14 sec exposures, with a 24" StarMaster scope. Any ideas and recommendations would be helpful on this type object , I know its just something I'm overlooking;-)
We will be here 2 more nights so if the skies permit I can give it another try.
Thanks
Dan

You might try the Gamma setting.

For brighter objects, you can lower the AGC (gain) to keep from over-exposing them. Conversely, for dim objects, increase the AGC.

For objects like the Cat's Eye, eliminate the focal reducer to increase the power. This will also reduce the burning in of the center of the planetary. This also will work well on the Ring.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did experiment with the gamma setting with no luck.
Also went through all the settings on the AGC, tonight I will try removing the focal reducer, looks like 2 more good nights :-)
Also how do you use the ( freeze image ) setting in the options menu??
Thanks
Dan
