I don't know why they didn't use some type of auger mechanism? That's the way to move any quantity of solids!

Well, they are now reporting confirmation of water ice from the Phoenix lander "bake." They're quite happy.

Just read that on Yahoo. Surprisingly enough, they got the ice not from the visible crumbs, but what seemed to be dry soil. I guess it's pretty well mixed in.

The discovery of water on Mars is being excitedly reported on one of our local television stations tonight as "Signs of Life" on Mars! Excuse me, but I didn't know that water is alive...
