Over this weekend, I ran into some problems with my focuser starting to "run away" on me. After it stopped, I noticed that everytime I try to focus, the object does not stay within the field of view; it would move out of view as the focuser is used. And, the focuser continued to "run away" every time it is used. I was able to use "Focuser Calibration" once and it fixed the problem last night. Now, tonight, it is so far out of whack that I cannot get the scope to the point where the "Focuser Calibration" can fix the problem, or bring any object into focus to that matter...
Has anyone run into this problem before? Is there a way, or procedure, to get the scope back to a focusing/collimation balance so that the "Focuser Calibration" can properly adjust the focuser again?

If one of the three motors is bad then the other two will focus, thus changing the collimation severely, that's why it went way out of the field of view.

Yep... Just this evening, I tried my 12VDC/10A 17AH PowerTank with same results! 
I guess I'll be using the NP127is on the Sphinx SXD for a while... Oh, darn!

I encountered the dreaded focuser motor runaway problem three times on a 10" RCX and the factory failed to fix it. I ended up trading up to 12" model that is still working, but I replaced the extension tube with a Crayford focuser and use that 99% of the time so I don't have to mess with the electronic focuser. I don't trust it.

I had toyed with that idea before the focuser had problems. Luckily, I have a 5-year Sky Assurance on the scope with the free 3-way shipping option. This is the first issue I have had with the scope after 6 months of use, so we'll see how this added insurance will work out...
