LX200 Classic Dec Skip
      #2499098 - 07/04/08 11:11 AM

On our 16" LX200, the DEC axis skips when moving North. I plan to take it apart, but wanted to ask a couple of questions. First off, the only accessory on the scope is the dew shield and it does this with or with out it mounted.

Is the DEC axis a spring loaded worm similar to the RA axis?

I had to replace the spring in the RA axis when it did the same thing so I am hoping that is all it is.

Also, does anybody know if the mirror stablizer for the 12" LX200 Classic would work on the 16". It as the hole for the shipping screw in the back just like the 12" (at least it looks like it as I have not removed the plug).

Thanks in advance for your help!
Jason

I don't have a 16 inch, just a 12, but there should be an adjustment screw on the worm assembly to prevent the worm from coming away from the wheel and disengaging from the teeth. It should be adjusted so there is only minimal "play" when you physically pull the worm away from the wheel. It needs a little "play" to take up any runout the wheel may have.
I don't know about the mirror lock bolt, but it should be the same.

    Jason,

The mirror stabilizer should work in the 16''. If you still have that red shipping lock bolt and you know someone with a 12'' Classic that has theirs you could compare them and if they are the same just to be absolutely sure. I still have an extra red shipping lock bolt from one of my prior 12'' Classics I could send you if you want for comparison.

Thanks for the help guys. Southmike, that would be great if you could look that up for me.

Daniel, let me look in my stuff to see if I still have the shipping bolt from the 16 or the 12. Didn't even think of that!
