If only! You work hard so you can get the things you want and then try and find the time to enjoy them after you get them. Seems you've either got money OR time but seldom both at the SAME time. Next day off will be July 12th, until then it's an hour here or there. Job security.

I will be happy to, and to eat it as well! Happy Birthday in advance Marcus! I saw your mug in the dome today playing with that new scope of yours, just pack that old 10" up and anything else you're not using send it this way. You're running out of room and I have plenty of space at my place for you to store stuff!

Karen,
You don't know how true the statement is about me running out of room. The old 10" is currently hiding in the corner of the dining room. The rather large box the 12" come in is in the living room. Both will be moved to the garage for storage tomorrow..(ummm later today).

I hope I was behaving myself and not picking my nose or something. I actually forget that camera is there when I am out there. I am also glad the sound is off or you might have had to cover your virgin ears. I had a bunch of issues today and I know I said "oh poop" more than once.

Wow, I haven't posted anything to my own thread in 3 months! Lets see, the AC unit in combination with the thermostatically controlled fan, ReflecTex radiant barrier and R-15 insulation in the walls kept the obs at a comfortable 82F/55%RH all during the HOTTEST part of the summer. Happy scopes and happy observer. I could actually go up there during the heat of mid day and not pass out. The work on the control room is lagging WAY behind; I've been putting in so much time at work that given the choice of observing or working on the control room observing has won out. I'll try to get to it now that things at work have slowed a bit. Got a new OTA, a Celestron Omni 150 XLT to put up on the CG5-GT. I've had it out on the front porch on my sleazy little Grab and Go EQ2 GEM all evening looking thru sucker holes at the Moon and Jupiter and as long as I don't breath on it the views are very nice. I now have an 8" SCT, an 80mm refractor and a 6" reflector and I'm done buying scopes for awhile. I think. About a week ago a squirrel managed to get across both of the terminals on the transformer behind the house and crash my power fortunately nothing was damaged. An added bonus of the utility coming out to repair it was them moving the service drop line off of the roof by the obs. Scott and Donny had to avoid it while they built the obs because the utility said they WOULDN'T raise the line to get it off the roof. All it took was a dead squirrel and suddenly it gets raised up off the roof and out of the way of the obs. Go figure. I'm off next week-end I'll try and post some current pix of the obs interior.

OK Karen, how many nuts did you give to the squirrel to do this?

You have such a great lineup of equipment, & of course a beautiful BYO Observatory in which to enjoy them, with your limited time!

We'll be looking forward to updated photos soon.

I did not bribe the squirrel! The odds are pretty good that Shadow, my old black Lab, caught the squirrel stealing food out of Jakes dish and chased it up the Hackberry tree next to the garage/obs. The fastest escape route is up the power line that was laying on the roof to the pole. I think Mr Squirrel zigged when he should have zagged and managed to get a foot on each of the transformer taps and BOOM he shorted the transformer. I feel bad for the little guy but at 440 volts I don't think he knew what hit him. He went out with a bang! When the utility guy came out to reset the "crowbar" on the transformer he took one look at the line laying on the roof and deemed it "unsafe". He climbed down off the pole, drove his truck around the corner and up my drive way and said in a barely understandable Texas drawl "lemmefixthaferyaratnowmam". Then he hooked some sort of "come-along" looking thing to the service drop, took up all the slack, cut and re-attached the lines to the mast, secured everything with new hardware, climbed down off his ladder and after saying "tharyagomamthatautadoer" he drove off into the sunset. Amazing!

Too bad this didn't happen before Scott arrived to build Amazing, you call them, requesting it be moved, & nada; then due to a little squirrel, it gets properly taken care of

Just goes to show ya that everything is bigger in Tejas. even words.

Glad your approach to temp control is a smashing success. With as hot as it gets there and having to go with a shingle roof, it's just awesome!

You are certainly one good advice giver here in the obs forum too. Gladtaknowyamam!

The current economic down turn has led to a glut of "inexpensive" telescopes in the local pawn shops and at yard sales. Vowing not to spend more than $25.00 I set off in search of a bargain on Saturday. Came home with a vintage Tasco 114 on a surveyors tripod from a yard/estate sale. Ten bucks. Cell phone photo of the before reveals a dirty old scope with no EP's and a funky finder. Spent Saturday afternoon cleaning her up, lube for the mount, Dr Clay's cleaner for the mirrors, new (spare) RDF, new (spare) spreader and tray. I need to charge the battery on my DSLR so no "after" pix until tomorrow but she has pretty nice optics for an old beater. I took her out on the porch and pointed her at Orion and got a really NICE view of the nebula! Pointed her all over the sky and with a little tweaking got nice sharp stars and inky dark skies even from my light polluted city location. She's a keeper! I think I'll keep her in the SUV as my grab and go scope. The OTA slips right into an old golf bag I have and a bungee cord around the tripod and I'm good. Dontcha just love a good recession!
