Meade 7x42 Rainforest Pro new
      #2511105 - 07/10/08 04:43 PM

I am looking for a 7-8x wide field binos (8-9 degree) and first I found the nikon action EX (either the 7x35 or 8x40) to be not bad for the price.

But then I stumble upon the Meade 7x42 Rainforest Pro :
http://www.digitalfotoclub.com/product-features.asp?id=633246005

They are wide (9.3 degree), have a good exit pupil (16mm) and not to heavy or pricey (although they cost way more than the nikon)

The problem is they seem discontinued and the only review I can find is this one :
http://www.epinions.com/content_351022911108

Even this site seems to have nothing about them!

So, as anyone ever used them (specially under the stars), if so how good are they? I'm not sure if they are worth 250$+ more than the nikon

han ,

I've not read much about the Rain Forest Pro. either , but I do know a couple of regular members here are quite impressed with their 7 x 42 Meade Montanas .

These are members who own some equipment of the quality I can only dream about , too !

Good luck
Kenny

There is alot of excellent testing that is being done on this forum by moderator EdZ, save yourself alot of time and grief, stick with the Nikon Action ATB 8x40mm, as it is rated as one of the BEST tested.

How about the 7x35? Are they on par with the 8x40?

I Would prefer a 7x with wider field than a 8x...

good,

I will probably settled on the 7x35, as I want a very large FOV. I guess it's not necessary to pay 250$ more for the Meade specially due to the lack of review/impressions!

You might also consider the book, Binocular Astronomy, by Crossen & Tirion, the book was compiled using the 7x35, 7x50, and 10x50 binoculars.
