Just saw this on the Willmann-Bell web site:
http://www.willbell.com/HANDBOOK/nitesky.htm
They've added a volume III to NSOG for the southern skies. This will not only be a great reference for observers in the southern hemisphere, but also for those (like myself) in the very southern parts of the US.
They're due out in July and you can pre-order now with a $5 discount. I already did and can't wait to get my copy as NSOG is one of the very best references for deep-sky work IMHO.

Howdy all;
Speaking as a contributer to all three volumes, I am always very happy to know that I provided text and drawings to this project. I know that many folks have spoken that they use these books for creating observing lists every month and love to compare to what we saw for a variety of deep sky goodies as they made they way around the sky.

Suh-weeeeeeet!!!! The NSOG was, bang-for-the-buck, the best investment I ever made in this hobby. Seeing it expanded to include the entire sky is great news. When I was down in Big Bend National Park (29.3N was our observing site's latitude), there were several regions below -50 deg where I really, really wished the NSOG reached down to. This is great news.

These were being pre-sold at Texas Star Party and I, of course, bought one. They had a proof copy there to peruse. It was pretty impressive and lives up to the quality generated by the northern volumes.

Thank you for the notice on NSOG V.3.
Although I limit my actual field viewing to binoculars--and many of the entries in NSOG are out of my range--I find that I enjoy using NSOG for armchair astronomy. I particularly like the finder charts, text, and sketches.
I look forward to V.3.

Glen Sanner isn't involved in the new volume? I don't anticipate a trip to the southern hemisphere, but I guess I'll have to get one anyway.

I've been trying to get to Mexico on a near yearly basis with my ex-wife / best friend (yeah). Which seems like a good excuse for me to buy another astronomy book!

I think Glen was involved even though he didn't share author credits. I am sure he has some contribution credits. He and Bob were both together (as always!) showing the new volume on their table at Texas Star Party. I didn't ask him about his involvement, however.
I think it is so great how they have collectively brought a lot of observers together over the years, both from the contributors to NSOG and from us folks who use the NSOG. And they are both a couple of really nice guys. I have always enjoyed seeing them every year at TSP.

Yep, what my Pen-friend here says. The new volume is impressive and is of the same great quality as the previous two. I didn't pre-buy one at TSP, because I'd spent enough money already(!), but I will be getting one when it comes out over here.

I just got an email from Willman-Bell that the books are one their way...including mine! I look forward to reading through it and seeing what I want to put on the observing list for the next time I get to travel south.

Just received my copy from Willmann-Bell. From a quick review, it's a nice complement to the first two volumes and appears to have the same quality and depth in the desciptions.
It looks to be a must for the serious deep-sky observer in the Southern Hemisphere. It will also be very useful for those in the Southern U.S. and similar latitudes, and the book makes this very point on the back cover. I live in Florida, at around latitude 29 degrees north, and many of the objects are in striking distance--though I have to view Centaurus A and Omega Centauri through my Dob while on my knees. Just wished I lived far enough south to see the Tarantula Nebula and 47 Tucanae!

Thanks Rob, for the report. I knew that Bob Kepple had planned to have the book discuss objects north enough that they could be viewed from the southern US. I think it was a good decision. There is lots of great stuff with a declination below -30 or so.
Now I am REALLY looking by the front door every time I come home;-)

Mine just arrived
Looks great! Fits right in with the other volumes. Can't wait to get into it!
FYI for any fellow northern hemisphere types, there is a note on the bottom of the back cover stating, "531 of its DSOs along with 312 double and variable stars are visible from north latitude 33°."

I'll be interested in hearing what you think of it, given our shared southern perspective.
