What a quiet little thread we've got here. Gary's off to Greece and we anxiously await pictures. But finally Pool and Eriker have returned from their trip and I'm sure they'll have pictures to share and now I can finally type with two hands again, etc. So what's going on with everyone?
Here... work & some camping & viewing every clear night. I've gotten my 60 yr old Polish neighbor into viewing with me. I think he's addicted & wants to get a scope. Beach camping next week, then a partial week with my folks @ Houghton Lk the next...then backpacking with Richard in Aug - hopefully with his portable scope. Best to you & fam.. Steve

Hi Diane and everyone else too
I'm at work reading CN when I should be doing, well, something else.
I've been suffering withdrawal because the NE ohio skies have been uncooperative in recent weeks. Just a few sorta mediocre nights. Nothing to compare with that pristine 3 hours we had at BEOTS. I have had the opportunity to get some viewing in with the Siebert Binos and I really really like seeing with two eyes. So --- I'm getting a second complete set of Brandon ep's for myself.
My son Evan has been in Paris since 7/1 studying Composition. He'll be back in 3 weeks and then it's back to school in NYC 10 days later.
That's about it for me except that I'll be spending a week near Slippery Rock, Pa. at our annual Medieval "War" during end of July-August.
Hope you're all well.

Backyard Observatories sure gets around!
Here's a picture from Olympia, Greece at the Temple of Zeus. The hat is positioned where the Olympic flame originates on its trip across 5 continents before ending up at the host city. They use a parabolic mirror to reflect the Sun's rays onto the torch to light it. It's no OMI mirror but it gets the job done!
Scott and Di, feel free to use this image in your Greece ad campaign.

I'm finally getting back into some sort of normal routine after our trip to the UK. I haven't gone through any photos yet but one of us will post some here in the near future. Needless to say it was an enjoyable trip and it was great to see my family again (first time in five years for most of them).
Today I went to the office to catch up on paperwork. Thankfully there wasn't much, but I was duly informed that it was time for a 'Line check'. Welcome back ! So this afternoon I was buzzing around the Zanesville and Coshocton area in a King Air 200 shooting single engine 'raw data' instrument approaches etc etc . Actually it was a great way to knock off any rust accumulated since leaving for the UK a couple of weeks ago. It felt good to be 'back in the saddle' again.

Yeah, how did your surgery go, Di? I guess you're recovering.... I'm embarrassed to admit I'd forgotten about it. Bad Steph.
Not bad Steph, mean ole mod yes, but not bad Steph.
Surgery went well. The dr. removed 3 bone spurs on my wrist and thumb, but also did some surgitizing for DeQuervain's tenosynovitis. This should relieve my hand pain quite a bit. When I woke up from the anesthesia, I had been dreaming that we were setting Stella up and getting ready to view. I woke up happy! I've learned to use my left hand a lot more and am working on getting my right hand back to normal.

Steve, It sounds like your summer is going well. Great getting your neighbor viewing with you!
Howard, I take it that all is going well for Evan in Paris? That young man is jet setting about as much as Gary is. Good for him! You've got to post a picture of you dressed up in your medieval gear. I'm sure your helmet is much nicer than the ones we had at BEOTS II.
Hey Gary, don't get Greece on that hat! (I'm just thrilled that you picked that as one of your items to pack. Very nice!)
Paul, I'm so glad you and Erika had such a good time, but I'm really glad that you are home again. Probably not as much as the fuzzy butts, but certainly glad. I'd like to make a trip down to visit you guys soon.
I'm so glad all of you chimed in! The past couple weeks being laid up and barely able to type, I was going bonkers! (Yeah, Scotty dear, I know I don't have far to go. )

Continuing my Summer Program Where I Act like a Grownup (this ain't as easy as I make it look - be careful trying this at home...), work on the house progresses (busted out the master bedroom shower, where the original owner had used greenboard instead of something durable for the backing). I did luck out, in that he laid the board in four-foot high sections, and only have to redo the lower half. Today, I got my base stickers and Navy ID card renewed (the latter because I'm now on Medicare, and Tri-Care is the supplement), exchanged battery chargers at Batteries Plus for ones that work, and visited Harbor Freight to pick up the things Scott neglected to put on my list in OH.
Ordered more parts for my new peecee (Intel cut the price of the CPU I wanted by 30% ), and the heatsink-fan that'll fit is onna way.
Surveyed the motorhome my friend in Thailand bought (did HE get a DEAL - I found only 8 squawks, and only 3 needing pre-trip attantion - and a gorgeous unit, to boot).
The week after returning from BEOTS II/GBSG, I worked on StaRV II: reattached the flex piping from the turbo to the muffler, taking the opportunity to install a mandrel-bent elbow (less restriction). Also finished bolting the rear bumper on with through bolts, hardwired the sat dish 12VDC, got the rear tires balanced, and collected about a bale of Golden Retriever fur from the carpet and sofa. Did laundry.
Tomorrow, I'll trim my toenails - I'll report on how that turns out...
So I guess I've had only a bit less excitement than Paul and Eriker, and Gary...but that's what retirement is.

Kind of reminds me of the the UK, where at one time it was popular to relieve someone of their garden gnome for a while and occasionally send a photo of it with the location where it's been... Never know where the next BYO hat will emerge...

Hi Diane
Evan is having a great time in Paris. He'll be touring for a couple of weeks after class is finished and then be home August 12th.

Howard, is there a website for the "games" or more info? If time were to allow I'd love to see it!
Gary, I never pictured anyone touring Greece in a BYO cap. Thanks for posting the pic. Too cool!
Rusty, I can't help if you got so excited looking at all the cool stuff at Harbor Freight that you forgot half your shopping list. Go ahead and blame me though. Lord knows I'm used to it.
