Is it really a star party or is it a chocolate eating, alcohol drinking, cigar smoking event?
Well yes to both , lol. Some chose to smoke cigars and drink occasionally, others dont , Im a non smoker and non drinker (typically) and Ive had a blast the couple times Ive went to the horstmans estate. If you can make it......do it ...you wont regret it.

The only terrible movie David Lynch ever made. Trivialized the book to an even greater degree than is usual for such a film. Lynch was very skilled but it was just too much book for film.
Herbert's Dune books were readable but I never considered looking at later clones so I dunno what those are like.
Anything Asimov wrote before 1960 is worth reading several times.

Hi Diane & Scotty,
I wondered which weekend it was occurring. Rosaelena and I will be there Friday evening and Saturday all day/night. We had such a great time at BEOTS and have been looking forward to LCSP. It's officially on my calendar!

If you look at the credits for that film you will see it was directed by 'Alan Smithee'. This is a fake name that directors use when they have been forced to make changes in a movie that they did not want. While I agree it is too much book for film, I think Lynch was trying to distance himself from a work that he did not consider his own.

I agree. OTOH, "movieing" anything from Dune is far beyond then or current moviemaking resources.

Greetings!
I caught the astronomy bug last year in Seattle and had some fun there with folks on CN. I recently moved back to Columbus, and thought I'd come join you stargazers in the Buckeye State on this forum. I do remember there was some sort of "war" between Pacific NW people and the Buckeyes, but I am hoping you would not reject me.
Looks like I just missed the big party BEOTS2, but look forward to the next gathering, maybe at LCSP in October?
Clear skies!

Jingchun, You are most welcome to join us here at the Horstman Observatory Cluster! It's rather informal and relaxed and we really enjoy meeting other astronomers especially through Cloudy Nights.
And Andy is right, there wasn't a war....we whooped the Pacific NW thread hands down.
