10" Imaging Scope
      #2517457 - 07/13/08 10:58 PM

Looking for a new imaging scope for a QHY8 or Canon DSLR.

Considering the following:

Vixen VMC260L
DSI RC10C
Astro Tech 10" RC
Hyperion (if it ever is available with a 10").

Any other considerations in this price point?
Suggestions, features, limitations, Pro/Con ?

Thanks,
S

My choice would probably be the AT or the DS...though I would advise waiting until we get some feedback from new users. I wonder about 10-inches, though. All that will really get you an 8 won't is less field and an OTA that stresses the mount more...just sayin'...

Thanks for the feedback. Are those Orion options very available used? Will have to check out the Orion Optics site.

About the 10" size, that is good advice Uncle Rod. I have used an FF/FR to image with 8" but am looking for a slight increase in image size (almost there without the FR but not quite). If these are really flat fields that these scopes can provide, it can get me the image scale I am looking for and more without using a field flattener.

This would be my deep sky setup and would use other smaller scopes (and smaller FRs) for more FOV.

Please, more comments welcome.

The smallest Hyperion starizona will produce is the 12.5". There might be a 10" in the works in the future but right now there is no plans to produce one.

Was there any further info from Astronomics about the release date for the 10" RC scope?

Pricing in the June or July Astro rag(s) ads show an "approx." price of 4995. No firm figure yet?
