How much detail can you see in....
      #2518411 - 07/14/08 02:31 PM

I know every pair is different, and I've read Edz's excellent objective info and reviews. But in general, what type of detail have you seen in different binos, and under what conditions?

For example..

"I've seen the bands on Jupiter in my...", or
"I can see both east/west parts of the Veil in my...", or
"I can see M51 in my..."

I'm just curious as to how much has actually been pulled out of various binoculars.

Hi Craig, wow, that's really a broad question!

There's a thread linked through the 'best of' sticky thread, giving binocular observing reports. That will probably give you a good sample of what has been seen by various forum members.

Exactly the thread I thought of. here's a link to perhaps a hundred observation reports of thousands of objects using dozens of different sizes of binoculars.

This link was set up so all members could add links, all in one thread, to their own observing reports. By linking here to that thread, we've got a permanent access for you to get back to the thread that shows all of our Observing Reports. We add new links to new Observing Reports in this post. Here you can access the many Observing Reports from our members.

"I've seen the bands on Jupiter in my...",
In my Kowa 82x50 Prominar Highlander (used the optional 50x eyepieces).

"I can see both east/west parts of the Veil in my...",
Almost any hand held binocular fitted with narrow band filters or maybe OIIIs. And, moderately dark skies.

"I can see M51 in my..."
With. moderately dark skies you should see it in a 10x50. I was using my Nikon 12x50 SE
