Satellite tracking software new
      #2511515 - 07/10/08 07:55 PM

Hey everyone. Soon I will be operating my telescope via ASCOM and am wondering if it it possible to track satellites. If so, which software do you all suggest.

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/satellitetracker/

In the files section, look for setup.exe.

I use Orbitron-- free software at http://www.stoff.pl/

Very nice -- tracks bunches of sats-- and draws the orbits on the screen-- built in orbit updater and even a screensaver.

You have to join the Yahoo Satellite Tracker user group but no big deal. The big deal is that unless you have an LX200 mount, it's very dicey. There is a "go-between" program by the EQMOD group called EQMODLX. This module translates LX200 commands (which Satellite Tracker was written for), to supposedly Celestron and Synta EQ5 and 6 mounts. I have tried it on my SkyWatcher HEQ5-Pro with inconsistent results. Most of the time it tracks for a minute or so, then lags behind with the gears working overtime. You also need a program that sets up a virtual com port on the computer. Not the physical port of the ASCOM driver. Satellite tracker needs to see another com port and this is what this program does. Google the EQMOD website and you'll find all the info. Best of Luck!
