A moon orbiting Regulus 239 in the Crab Nebula?
      #2523891 - 07/17/08 07:05 AM

So, who's seen the Burger King commercial where a guy discovers a "moon orbiting Regulus 239 in the Crab Nebula that may support life"?

First, I don't think Regulus is even in the crab nebula, and I pretty sure you are not going to discover extrasolar planets (let alone moons) with a 6 or 8 inch newt.

No, that's true!
It originally orbited Regulus 238, but the neighborhood was getting too seedy, what with all the dwarf stars and gaseous nebulae moving in and playing their loud music at all hours.

Wow! They've discovered 239 planets around Regulus??

Just shook my head and groaned when I first saw this commercial. But then, as my head was rattling, I took note of the telescope in the background. Is that a tricked-out Parks Newt? And, if the production company responsible is as irresponsible with their props as they are with their dialogue, can I take that 'scope off your hands, say for a hundred bucks or so?

The commerical is pretty funny.

Ya know, with the money and effort they spend on making these commercials, why couldn't they have at least *asked* some astronomer to invent a convincing bit of dialogue?

My DW just rolled her eyes when I said "Regulus isn't in the crab nebula and it is a star so it can't have a moon"
