Has anyone viewed with PlaneWave Instruments ? new
      #2523224 - 07/16/08 08:44 PM

Still digging around for info and insight on large caliber casses for a project I am contemplating when I came across Planewaves Instruments website. They seem to have good credentials, former Celestron engineers, and their scopes look great and the photos taken with them are stunning, but I was hoping to find someone who has actually used one. Anybody lucky enough to have the chance to see 'em?

Thanks,
Kurt

Very nice scopes, but I believe they're optimized for imaging. I'm sure the views would be good considering the excellent optics, but the large central obstruction would reduce contrast.

The big CO is there to illuminate the large chipped CCD cameras. And they aren't cheap!

Hey Kurt,

If you want to talk to some of the customers that have used the scope, you should checkout the PlaneWave Yahoo group. I’m sure they would answer any questions you have.

As for the price they are a lot cheaper than an RCOS, the optical design is many many times better, and much easier to make and collimate.

The big CO would be difficult to notice in a side by side comparison. The only time you would see it is in near perfect seeing conditions.

Thanks I will check that out. They seem to be just the right fit for the project, I am thinking of using the fork mounted 20 inch, it's just about perfect for this use.
