who here has experience with the Celestron Noble? new
      #2505294 - 07/07/08 11:11 PM

I've posted about a decent pair of daytime binoculars in the past, just a follow up on another model. guy at the outfitters store says I should seriously consider the Celestron Noble line. seems he's particular impressed with them over Vortex, some Bushnell, some Leupold, etc.

most interested in the 8x42's, so anything you can share about them would be appreciated.

I used to have a pair in 8x42. I switched to Nikon Monarchs due to the ergonomics IN MY HANDS. Otherwise the two are equivalent in my opinion.

thanks for your post avare. I should have mentioned I'm also considering the 10x30 Canon IS bino's as well. the Canon's will cost more, but I have the IS, higher power and they're for daytime use...tho some enjoy using them for astro purposes. the 8x42's would no doubt perform better in that aspect, but it's a secondary consideration.

If you are considering spending as much for the Noble, you might also take a look at the Celestron Regal. I notice they are still available from some sources at around $349. See the Small Binocular Reviews - A Dozen 8s, for the Regals, perhaps the best binocular Celestron has ever made.

I used to own the Noble 8x42's.They were very nice bins for $340ca.I managed to scoop a new 8x42 Regal for $212(a steal of a deal) so i sold the Nobles. The Regals are/were Celestron's best bins from what i know and are noticably better than the Nobles.
If you can get a pair of Regals for $300-$400 you won't be disappointed.
Here is a pic of both with the Noble on the left.Note the reflections.

Based on that photo( the lack of reflections), I picked up a 8 x 42 Regal Lx today new at Binoculars.com for $256. Thanks, Alan , for the comparison photo>

if everything is in working order, you've just bought yourself one of the finest mid-priced roof prism binoculars available on the market. BTW, I looked online yesterday and at some stores these are selling for over $400.

See my review comments in the 8s and in the roofs articles.

EdZ,

I noticed the same higher prices myself and that was a deciding factor in my purchase from the lower priced "store". I am definitely looking forward to trying them out and will compqare them to my Nikon E2 and Orion Expanse bins.
Thanks for the reference to your evaluations>

Received the Celestron Regal LX 8 x 42 today. Only had chance to view so backyard birds and the view appears on par with my 10 x 35 Nikon E2s. Collimation spot on; very very light weight although not as comfortable in my big hands as my porros. Came in a very nice case with very nice case strap plus standard Celestron bino strap. Coatings very very even with almost a total lack of reflections. Looking into the objectives is like looking into a "black hole'.

I will do a first light report as soon as I can get out under the stars.

This appears to be a very nice buy for < $260 including tax and shipping.
