Hi, the second mount in steel and aluminium i have show in refractor forum(or look in classic scope gallery under "HOMA") the third last mount only in steel(85%)has in rekt. 85 mm axis and in decl. 77 mm diameter the rekt axis it is 24 inch long , the decl.axis ~ 18 inch (it is not ready now) the worm gear has 8 1/2 inch diameter( 420 €)-is temporary -later will be Gierlinger worm gear 14 "(~2000 €)better quality and the temporary worm gear sitting on decl.axis the project will be longer time-not enough money

Fat axles are cool, but seems most mounts nowadays are going for large flat (or shallow coned) surfaces with thrust bearings to take the load, rather than the shaft. The shaft is relatively small diameter, more to put tension on the thrust bearings than take the bending load.

Hi, i think two bearing pairs to sitting by 2x tapered bearings D150/d85/H31 are enough. joseph fraunhofer had take for the struve mount(Dorpat) too ~95 mm steel shaft and only gliding bearings. okay, the repsold mount of kufner observatory(vienna)is perfects i am not the mechanical master perhaps the long telescope-tube it is heavy ,but under f 20 the false color will be greater i am not like to buy a chroma corrector perhaps are 8"f18 or 10"f18 or 11"f 25 (folded) enough i believe that the axis in steel will be not breaking and the bearing can to change regards Marc

Me, too! Antique refractors have an appeal that modern equipment just doesn't match. What scope are we looking at in the last photo, Marc? I collect photos when I can get them so I'd like to know more about the telescope.

Homa- Your work is awesome.. and the pictures of the Antique telescope and mount- beautiful.. simply beautiful. Sometimes I think they don't think they make things the way they used to... then, sometimes I think there's hope.
