Mt Bachelor Star Party, Aug 6-10, 2008
      #2526278 - 07/18/08 10:57 AM

Once TMSP ends, the drive down to Bachelor will take around six hours. Mt Bachelor starts on August 6th and is held at the 6500 foot mark on the side of Mt Bachelor in Bend, OR.

Recent years, we've had GREAT observing and this year we're expecting some incredible speakers. Check out the Mt Bachelor Star Party here

Larry,

do you know if there is "day of" registration at MBSP?
I am thinking about trying to fit in but, probabaly wouldn't know until the Monday or Tuesday before.

MBSP sound pretty appealing and probably not be a hard sell to my wife given things like indoor plumbing, nature talks/walks, indoor shelter.

In any case I would not be able to arrive until Friday (Thursday if I am lucky at work).

PS - forgot my wife has a previous engagement the Saturday, but I will definetly consider MBSP next year - so if you have any comments on it I'd love to hear them.

Myles, sorry I'm late--just got back from Table Mountain. You can register anytime for MBSP and right at the event. The area has space for 700 or more people. We've never had more than 200 and we're not limited to any particular number.

MBSP, when the skies are good, it is GREAT--especially when there are clouds below us on the mountain...then it's as dark as any star party I've ever attended. Elevation is around 5500 feet.

The beauty of MBSP is the fact that the city of Bend is only 22 miles away and there is so much to do during the day. Flush toilets, a building to warm up in...great food.

It's a fun star party that should grow to be a whole lot bigger but hasn't yet.

We'll look forward to seeing you next year and I'll report on it this year next week.

I'll echo all the positives Larry mentioned. This is a superb location and a well-run event. It's my fave.

I hope you have a great trip. I've been to the lodge, but never during a star party. I have also viewed the night sky from that location too.

My mom and dad live in Redmond. However..I will be attending/hosting a get together here at GOMOC. Probably do some black powder during the day. Of course it is all hanging on out of townners we are expecting as well....

Skies have been great...so have fun.

Rob
