guys i am wanting to replace the tripod legs , since my wife ran over my tripod,mmmm well anyways i am wondering if it would better to use wooden legs or 2 inch tublar legs, it had the 1 1/2 inch on before, and would like to get something a little more studier. Any pros or cons on this, yes i did forgive my wife, lucky for me the scope wasnt on at the time, whew.. thanks guys

I replaced the shoddy legs on my CG4 with one-piece Oak legs. The difference was profound. I also have a CG5 that came with 2" tubular steel legs. They were very capable and stiff, but HUGE and very heavy. My wooden legs dampen very quickly and have improved the performance of the mount ten-fold. Picking between wooden legs and 2" steel is tough though. I think you'd be happy with either.

In many cases the wooden tripod legs may be considered better, basically because they are not nearly as heavy as the steel legs. The advantage of the steel legs is that they are quite strong and very stable.
An important consideration is the type of tripod ring you already own...this is the metal ring with 3 ears on which the tripod bolts up. If you currently own the one which is made for the tubular metal legs, it will not fit a wooden tripod. You will need to buy the correct ring (www.handsonoptics.com) and that will cost you an additional $35 plus shipping. Conversely, if you own the ring which was used with the old aluminum tripod, this will fit the wooden legs. If you want to see some pictures, go to my web site. www.alsastro.com
