OK..wait.

I must have missed something back there...we need to register with this other group to come to our own star party?

Or..because we are *JOINING* this other group..we need to register with them to have our star party?

Or...we have to register with them..because we are no longer haveing MSHSP's but we are having parties with this other group..and we need to register so we can do that?

And if we do not register we cannot join in with them at their party..and hence have to suffer with our own party down the road?

Am I seeing this the way it is or am I confused....still?

Rob( I thought the registration was if we wanted to join them in their work party stuff)

We elected to participate in this Vancouver Sidewalk Astronomer/Mt. St. Helens Institute event in lieu of holding our own party this year. This event is at the now closed Coldwater Visitor's Center. We voted on this 2 months ago. Everyone was in favor of joining up with this event.

With the Forest Service looking for new ways to draw people to the National Volcanic Monument we felt that making a combined event would go further demonstrating the need for continued amateur astronomy use of the Monument.

This event costs $15 to participate in - similar to what we were all chipping in for the portable toilet at previous event. You need to register at the link I gave earlier. However, if you volunteer for the trail maintenance event earlier in the day than the entrance fee to the star party will be waived.

I am registered. If my wife wants to come, does she need to register separately and pay an additional 15 bones?

Here's another question: Since it is on the 2nd and 3rd, does that mean only one night of obseving? Can we go Friday night also?

NOW..the light comes on.

Joining them..means we need to register as IF we were regular attenders of thier activities. Simply it's just a head count..so they can know what to expect.

We'd be paying roughly $15 anyway for our P/P....so.

Gottcha!

Marty, welcome to the asylum!

I don't know the answer to your question, but if the answer turns out to be "no" I want you to know about an alternative for Friday (and Thursday) night. Tacoma Astronomical Society is doing a youth-oriented star party on some property near Goldendale starting Thursday night and on through the weekend. It's on my property, and part of the deal is that my CN buds can come too, whether or not they are TAS members. For my part, I'll be at G/dale Thurs. & Fri., then go up to Mt. St. Helens Saturday.

If you (or anyone else here) is interested in G/dale I can give you directions.

Incidentally, just in case 'Ol Buckaroo decides to go to G/dale, the other part of the deal is that one of the astro pads would be available for the Almost 30.

Our other MSHSPs have been down the road a couple miles at the Castle Lake Viewpoint. I've been to Coldwater but I've never observed from there. Google maps indicate good horizons to the south and east, decent to the west and a little less horizon to the north. Be sure to click on the terrain map while you're at Google.

I am going to bring my kites in hopes for some good winds during the day. It looks like there may be a few spots to set up the sport kites if anyone wants to join me. I have a old dual line if anyone wants to try it. I am going to try to remember to bring my telescopes. I will also have my single line high flier setup with me and will launch if I get FAA clearance.....

While there's no real limit on the number of people I can bring, I know they'd like a nose count ahead of time. When you make up your mind, please let me know so I can pass it on. (You too, Steve.)
