I'm compiling tours (observing lists), and need to find some nice short descriptions for various objects. (such as what it is, distance from us, size, etc.). Just basic facts and maybe something interesting about the object.
Is there a site that has this already compiled for large numbers of objects? I know I can search and compile my own, but it would be much faster and easier if there was one common source.
I need to cover all types of objects... galaxies, double stars, nebulas, etc.

SEDS has a list of Messier objects, along with some more non-Messier stuff.

Hello Calan. The link Chris listed is a good site and I also use a free download called Astrobyte which is a planning and logging program that also gives a description of the object just might also be what your looking for, Check it out ! web page

The finest comprehensive list out there: http://www.saguaroastro.org/content/downloads.htm and a simple one but truly excellent: http://homepage.mac.com/vicmenard/telescopes/ see "The List"

A site I often use along with SEDS is the NGC/IC Project at www.ngcic.org
