does CN have one of those maps where its members can put a little digital "push pin" in where they live? that would be really cool for this thread.

I am getting ready to move to lost wages (Las Vegas). Is there any CNers out that way? I'm looking to hook up with a club out there as well. I will be moving there in early August.

What a great idea. I currently live in Central Illinois and have become self taught over the last year. I find large crowds sometimes intimidating, along with the issue of not knowing anyone when you show up. Well being planted smack dab in the middle of nowhere doesn't help any either. A map with pushpins is a good idea along with some means of breaking it all down and making contact with each other.

Another idea would be to change the search engine allowing folks to search the area they are in and see what users are registered in that area. I am not sure if the search will allow you to do that except it will allow you to search on user name though.

I am out here. You will love the skies out here. Less than hour from Las Vegas to extremely dark, clear skies. The next couple of days here will be the first time we have had clouds for weeks. Detailed Milky Way common once you get away from the city skyglow. Keep me posted. Be glad to help when you get here.

Kevin, This sounds like a great Idea. I meet with a friend locally in Vancouver, WA quite often, but usually my days off do not coincide with his. In fact I have to work when the largest star party meeting is happening in Oregon. I will be focusing more camping trips to view dark skies soon. To find others who could do the same would be great. My wife makes it to about 2:00 AM with me but then she folds. I like the diver’s list example. Maybe narrow it down to zones NW, SW, NE, SE or something like that. This is my first post, I joined to find out more info in general i.e. lenses, scopes, F-values and any other thing that might help, but the observing that do with another enthusiast is the best, so that is why I responded to this post.
Lakeland, I was there a month ago it was great. Scott

Anybody going to Clarence Fahnestock Park tomorrow night (Friday, 25 July)? CSC looks good. Moonrise around Midnight. You don't even have to bring a scope. I'm bringing my Teeter's 10" and Orion XT8i for some two-fisted fun!

Ok guys, are we ever going to do anything with this? I think there's been shown enough support that somethings merited. I like the idea of changing the search engine so that you can search for local members. I never thought of that...
Let's putt or get off the green, shall we?

Thanks Kevin for supporting the idea I had put in here. If they can change the searche engine you can search by state and or city local. What I thought was great about that is the users who wouldn't feel comfortable with sharing info publicly could always change their location.
