It really depends on how you plan to use them and what you can afford, but, in a pinch, the Nikon 10x50 AE (Action Extreme) are also considered good value for the money. Just my ! Good luck!

The Nikon 10X50 Action Type VII isn't a bad bin either. Not up to the AE, but not bad at all.

I pretty much agree with your train of thought. Hand hold-able binos are at there max at 10 power. That said I however love the 12x50 Nikon Action Extreme's. I've put them on a tripod and that's where for me they excel. At 5'6" I don't need a very "high" tripod or a heavy one as the 12x50 don't weight that much.
I did own a pair of 10x50's but in time I wanted a touch more power. I do own a pair of 8x40's Nikon Action for a very quick pick up and look or traveling.
Lookout for the bino bug. When it bites your in trouble. Some of us here, not me, own "dozens" of binos.
Good luck with your choice, but I prefer Nikons. No reason but i've always valued there name and optics.

Orion has a store not far from Santa Clara, in Cupertino, CA. They don't carry Garret brand but they do have several different 10x50 binoculars. You can hold and look through their binoculars.

Their store is on DeAnza Blvd, just a little south of McClellan.

If you will be wearing eyeglasses while using them, don't settle for too little eye relief. I would tend to suggest 11x56 or 12x50 over 12x60. After I bought it and used it some, I found my 12x60 to be a bit heavier (44oz) than I would have preferred. The Nikon Action Extreme 12x50 gets very good reviews, if you could boost your budget a bit. Both Garrett and Oberwerk make an 11x56.

I have the GO 12x60 and like them very much. They are not that heavy. I can "swep the sky" with them very easiy. But, to see the details, craters on the moon,Jupiter, they need to be put on a Tripod.
