Pretty good seeing at 1:30 this morning with just a moderate ripple. Jupiter was far enough west that it wasn't directly over the roof of the house. LRGB with the DMK21AF04 in the LX200 @ f/25.

Great picture Jeff, I know what you mean about the roof. I have to photograph Jupiter over my roof top and heat pump!

Yeah, my next house is going to have the back yard to the south! (Can you imagine how baffled the real estate agent would be?)

Jeff thats a fine image for a northener (I bet they dont call Texans that very often!). Look forward to your Jupiter images in the coming years when its a bit higher. Well done!

Jeff! I have telescope LX200 GPS+camera DMK21AF04 too. My photo Jupiter R+DMK21+LX200,10-05-08. Height above horizon of 8 degrees. It is my first experience. How you estimate it(him)? You Jupiter is very good.

Here's ours at 40 degrees. Note that yours is better because the haze was so bad that Jupiter had dimmed to the brightness of Saturn, making photography at speeds greater than 15 fps impossible.

Howdy Nik!
Around here, we call 8 degrees "tree-skimming." That's pretty good for a first shot--all you need is practice. Have you tried imaging the moon?

Very Nice Image,Jeff. The detail and clarity of the banding in the pic was superb.
How well do you like "The Imaging Source" CCD Imager?I always like it when I see your name on a thread in the imaging section, because your images(no matter which scope you use)are always of Great Quality. And you didnt disappoint in this image either.
Just a quick question,is you Imaging Source Camera a USB or FireWire? Thanks,My Friend.

Hi Jeff! Great shot! I'm looking at the same camera, but the USB flavor. How do you like it? Any thoughts on the higher pixel count versions?

Wow, thanks y'all.
I'm very happy with my TIS DMK21AF04. I can only compare it to the NexImage and the Philips SPC900NC, and it's definitely a step up in both quality & complexity (LRGB vs. one shot). I did a comparison using Mars when I got the DMK that I think shows the difference pretty well.
I use the Firewire version since I'm on the Mac and can use AstroIIDC to drive it. I'm not aware of a Mac USB driver.
For planetary imaging, there's no advantage to the DMK31 or 41. If anything, they're not as well suited since the larger frame slows down the max frame rate. The larger frame might be nice to have on the moon, though, for making mosaics from fewer images.

I know this is a thread about Jupiter, but I can't help but enjoy Nik's lunar image. There's something about the angle of the light sorce on the moon that makes that a very appealing image. It is also an orientation of the moon/photo that I do not see all that often.
Nice

Lovely image, Jeff. It's only getting about 23 degrees above the horizon for me this year.
