Well, you won't be able to miss me. I'll have the Brass Behemoth that shines like a beacon. The 6" F/15 Brass on a DS-16 mount sorta stands out in a crowd. Although I am thinking about selling it, if I get the right offer. It is first come, pick your spot. But I usually end up on the western side of the field pretty close to the road, and about half way back. Near the last "intersection" of the lane that crosses the field to the pavilion. But who knows where I'll end up if it fills up early.

And Phil Creed will be easy to spot as he will be speaking at the event
I was thinking I want to try for an "out of the way" spot on the field to get a decent night, erm days sleep in the back of the van, but still get a fairly unobstructed view.

Franco,
Thanks for the kind words. I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of new people at Cherry Springs. Owing to the fact that much of my observing is done in Ohio and West Virginia, it's rare that I venture into the Keystone State for serious deep-sky work.
I haven't been to Cherry Springs since 2001 (back in those halcyon days when gas prices were less than $1.50/gal), so I'm looking forward to the return visit.
Then again, I don't care if it's $5/gal. Mention a site and the words "John Dobson", and I'm soooooo there.
Clear Skies,
Phil

Cool! I'll try and make it to listen in. But it's hard with all the wandering I do. Good luck finding that spot. But you're welcome to set your stuff up by me, and park your van along the trees in the southeast corner. Russ Lederman (Denkmeier owner) usually parks around there for the same reason, to try and get some sleep!

Great! Breaking in a couple of newbies.. If you don't get the secondary out by then, bring it over and we'll get that sucker out. (flipping hammer behind back) I'm sure it could be accomplished w/o the hammer..
Quote:
Received my confirmation today. Plan to be there the entire week weather permitting. Two newbies will be joining me on the weekend so it should be fun.
BTW - I need someone to help me remove the secondary from my VC200L as it is pitted. Removing it from the spider seems tricky and I would like some help.

Sounds like sage advice Your set-up location is well centered but out of the midst of activity. I was at CSSP once, but the forecast turned sour and I saw nothing.

Just sent mine in this morning. I went to the CSSP last year (my first star party), but didn't make the trip due to weather this year. This will be my first BFSP. Is there a thematic difference between the two?
I'll be excitedly hauling my Goblin up there with its new optics, courtesy of Cary at OWL for the primary, and Brian at Protostar for the secondary. I haven't even had first light with them yet, but you KNOW I can't wait to get them under dark skies! - j

Tim, look at my last name. Don't you think I already own a couple of pairs?
Since it's my first time, do I have to bring the cake?

What? The weather was super at CSSP this year. The seeing was also great one of the nights. You can't trust the weather forecasts - all 3 times I've been to Cherry Springs in the last year the forecast was for rain (and snow) while the actual weather was clear.

It was fantastic Wed and Thursday and Saturday turned out pretty good as well. It's like a different world there where the laws of meteorology defy the norm. It pays to go up early. It increases the odds of having at least one great night.
