Anybody using TeleGizmos 365 cover? new
      #2525875 - 07/18/08 04:15 AM

Setting and breaking down the scope daily is becoming a tedious affair. I am therefore looking for a cover which I could put on my scope while fully setup. I plan to keep the scope in my balcony which gets 4-5 hours of the afternoon sun everyday and does get wet during the rains. The temperature range of my location is 15-34 degree celsius (59-93 degree Fahrenheit).

I am considering the Telegizmos 365 cover for daily use and would like to know your views if you are using it. Does this really keep the sun out to the extent that the optics and electronics would be safe?

Thanks in advance

I purchased one for the very same reason. Been using it for about a month, and have seen no problem with water, temperature, etc.. Its made of a good quality outside cover, and a foil type (temp resistant?) inside liner.

Another option would be a Wheely Bar, if you can fit the set-up tripod through the door. It's always better to store a scope inside.

I use one of the 365s. Even with the cover I make sure that the scope does not get a lot of direct sunlight--especially if it is a hot day. The covers protect the scope from sun exposure but they cannot prevent heat build up entirely. Too much heat can cause problems.

Another thing I am cautious about is the fact that the cover, even when drawn, can create a bit of a sail effect when the winds are high.

I always make sure I store the scope in such a way as it cannot tip over if the wind should catch it the right way.
I also bought two sets of wrist weights at a sporting goods place. I bought the very smallest ones that wrap around an wrist and velcro closed. I bought the 5 lb sets (you only need three but they come in pairs). I put these on the scope legs to help steady the scope should the winds gust up some when I am not around it.

Just my two cents. The covers are very well made BTW. Definately worth the cost.

I use one on my Meade. It's covered after each use. I then pull the tent over the scope (if the wife is still up to help) and keep dew off the setup at night

If I am up too late for the wife, then I enlist her help in pulling the tent over the scope in the morning. The tent is an 8x12 Easy Up. It keeps our concrete patio cool and the sun off the scope.

Hmmm, so direct sunlight must be avoided... I think I'll install blinds for my balcony. The scope will be covered in a 365 and I'll draw the blinds when the sunlight falls directly on the scope

Thanks everyone

Groz and I have an Astrogizmo cover...left a mount out for a couple days in the winter and it didn't even condense inside. We love it so much we have ordered two more for our growing scope setups.

yes they are great. heavy though. Only complaint! You have to install with care to avoid knocking guide scopes & such out of whack..
