Two questions about Registax 4 new
      #2530020 - 07/20/08 12:44 PM

1- I've noticed that on multiple PCs, I can't load anymore than 450 tiff files into Registax 4 at any one time. Has anyone else hit this limitation? How did you work around it?

2- Is there a freeware utility that allows one to convert several thousand tiff files into a single AVI file?

Thanks for any feedback.

P

Try it with jpg and see if it's the same limit.

It might just be a memory limit as Tiff is uncompressed the files are much larger.

The memory address limit for a 32bit CPU or OS is about 3.25Gb

I'm guessing your Tiff files are 7mb x 450 = 3.15Gb

I first used a Vista 64 bit system and it gave me an error about being unable to load a bogus name file that doesn't exist. Then it only loaded 100 frames.

My 32 bit XP system also failed but didn't give an error message like Vista did.

Each image is only 40k so I know that memory isn't an issue.

I have the same problem with .bmp files and Registax under Vista.

Jeff, it doesn't matter what file format you use. Turns out it's a nasty bug in Registax 4. To work around the issue, load Registax and then fire up Windows Explorer. Use the File Explorer in Windows Explorer and drag and drop all of the files you want in Registax. Then you should be fine.

I knew it couldn't have been a memory issue cause I was running Vista 64 with 4 gigs of memory.

Could be Registax is not compiled in a 64bit compiler in which case it would install under the "Program Files (x86)" directory and run in 32bit emulation mode.

Registax is a 32 bit program. I found out that there's a limit in Windows for loading files. So you have to get around the problem/feature by dragging and dropping instead.
