I have a friend with a 24mm Panoptic and we side by side tested versus my 22mm Panoptic. After an hour or we gave up and declared them identical for any purpose we could determine. We used his 10 inch f/5 Newtonian and my Nexstar 11 SCT. We viewed open clusters, double stars and galaxies and never saw any difference in field of view or edge sharpness. They are both excellent eyepieces.

I have often looked at the 24mm pan but have a 16mm nag. I'm not sure if it would be worth the upgrade. I did look through my brother's wo 66 with the 24mm pan in it was fantastic. Thanks for the review, good reading!

Excellent report! While my 24mm Pan is just favorite EP; I really enjoy using my 24mm Hyperion too.
I think the Hyperion’s are one of today’s best deals around.

I have owned both the 24 and 22 Panoptics, both were excellent. I have since acquired the 31 and 17 Naglers, which squeezed the Pans out of my collection. Sometimes I wonder just how smart a move that was.

Thanks for everyone's nice comments. Steve, I hadn't really considered the Pan 22 cause it's not sold anymore. In truth, it weighs more than the Meade 5000 and I wouldn't be interested, anyway. For folks with a bevy of heavy ones, though, I would be willing to bet it's one great ep, given the lettering on the side

I've had the Hyperion 24 for a few months now and am pretty happy with it. Great EP for the price. I agree there is some loss of crispness near the edge of the FOV when I use it with my f/4 schmidt-newtonian. When used also with a 2X barlow, the image is crisp everywhere. Haven't used the other two EPs you review, so I can't compare. I did want to add one comment though, about a nice feature provided by all the Hyperions. There is an extra set of threads near the eyeball end that permits a camera to be attached directly to the EP. A set of low-cost adapters allows me to do afocal photography of the Moon and planets using my Canon digital camera.

Nice review that has me seriously considering the Panoptic. I really liked my Hyperion when using my ETX125PE (1st scope). It does well in my C9.25 but it struggles a bit in the AT80ED. Alas, I find I use the AT80ED a ton due to portability. As much as I like my Hyperion, I've now been terribly spoiled by the Ethos my wife got me. It sounds like a Panoptic might be a good choice moving forward. Thanks for the detailed review.

I find my 24mm Panoptic works great in all my scopes, and it really Barlow's well, and is a fitting partner to my Pentax's. It will only leave me if/when Pentax makes a 1.25" 25mm XW, which don't seem likely. Doug

A pair of Pans were just too much to lay out for our BTs! Using them mostly for terrestrial use our Sieberts are just fine - we now have five sets of them (not all the same....)
