QHY8 on a C925
      #2543073 - 07/26/08 06:47 PM

Wondering if anyone is imaging with this combo and what they ended up using for the extension tube required to have the image come to focus on the CCD?

I just temporarily used a WO diagonal for now but would like to go to just a straight extension tube. I am being lazy and did not want to go through the gyrations to calculate
the distance and wondered if someone was using something right off the shelf.

Could have put this on the CCD forum but giving this a shot first.

Thanks,
S

You shouldn't need a diagonal or an extension tube. The 9.25 should have the focus range to accomodate the camera easily.

Well, that was what I thought, Uncle Rod, at first but maybe there is more to it than I noted originally. My scope now has a WO Linear Design 2-speed Crayford focuser. You would think that it should have even more back-focus now but I ended up checking this with the camera operating as I watched the size of the de-focused star on the laptop begin to appear as a smudge and then a smaller and smaller point.

It was about a quarter inch (approx) shy of perfect focus and this was with the crayford and C925 focuser racked all the way back.

If you still think that is suspicious, let me know.

I should note that Dr. Clay supercharged this scope and made some adjustments to the secondary and focuser so maybe there is something to be said there? The scope is a really superb example of the 925 series so not sure what else there is to note.

Will give it another try, Uncle Rod, and will report back.

Still, if there are any folks out there using this setup, please feel free to add your comments.
