Has anyone tried to print a mask on transparency film? If so, does it work?

Yes I have.
They print just fine, but don't work to well out in the field, they tend to dew up quite quickly, and if its cold the dew freezes. I ended up using them as templates, for cut outs on pail lids, which is fairly thick plastic.

I made one for my 80mm APO. $2.79 at Staples - I purchased a heavy duty black folder.

Printed up a template on regular paper, cut it out with an exacto knife, traced it onto the black folder, cut that out with an exacto knife. It took me a little while to do all the cutting with the knife, but it came out perfect.

Jerry, I just got my Spike-a-com Bahtinov mask this morning. It's outstanding. It's rigid, sturdy, easy to attach, and looks like it'll last forever. Great job. Thanks.

David

Hi all...I just thought that the group would like to see this masks result with a Mallincam video camera. It truly make focusing a snap

figured i'd give this thread a bump as someone asked what i used for my FS 60C

i used the bahtinov mask generator here:
http://astrojargon.net/MaskGenerator.aspx
using FL 354 aperture 60 bahtinov factor 50
to generate the mask:
http://whwastro.homestead.com/files/temp/bahtinov_FS60C_FL354_BFact_50_.svg
printed on normal paper with inkscape (freeware), cut out with an exacto knife on a plastic cutting board, and cut out a bread crumb container for the cylinder (had to open the cylinder as it wasn't quite big enough).

it isn't pretty:

but it gives a nice focus pattern, even using the reducer at different FL:

as mentioned before
don't use on DSO's

I made one a few weeks ago for use with my C8 Hyperstar3. I like it a lot better than the Hartmann Mask.

Almost the same, achieved with minimal means: Bahtinov wires

I got some good results with a 210mm f/4 camera lens and the free 66ED mask template from Focus-Mask which was sized just right. Here's a shot of Venus with it from tonight:

Taken at ISO200, 2sec, f/4. The mask didn't work at shorter FLs but I'm going to make a thinner one and see what happens.

In all this enthusiasm, and mass production, has anyone actually run an FFT on the Bahtinov mask?
