Hello, After a long break I'm back into astronomy, and pretty quickly got setup with the 'scopes you can see in my sig (inherited most of them). I think my long term interest is probably mostly imaging with visual for fun, and I was planning on starting imaging in a few years. Well I've got some dark sky trips coming up, and I was thinking of starting the imaging fun now. Especially when I found that with a web cam and software tricks you can do stuff you couldn't do before.
So I was thinking about picking up a Celestron NexImage to go with either my C6/Astro-Tech Voyager Alt/Az mount, or the AT66 with same. It's amazing to me that (apparently) you can do some nice planetary imaging with a non powered mount.
Thoughts?
Dan

That sounds like a good plan.

I do most of my planetary imaging unguided. I figure since I'm dealing in exposure times that are less than a fraction of a second for most solar system objects, and it can take a while to go through the whole alignment and guiding setup before even getting started on imaging, I just skip it all and manually guide. Absolutely nothing wrong with your approach.

For these dark sky trips - which would perform better, the AT66 or the C6?

It's really going to depend on the target or purpose. Your C6 has an aperature advantage so most things will come through brighter. Are we talking the C6 SCT or C6 NGT? The SCT is more ideal for planetary, I'd say even over the AT66. If it's an NGT, then I'd say go with the AT66 for planetary, but that is my humble opinion.

c6 without a doubt on both DSOs and solar system objects. The little refractor is nice scope but there is just no substitute for aperture, particularly good quality aperture like the c6.

Thanks guys - it's an SCT, one of the recent cheaper ones they've been selling. Sounds like that's the one to go with!
