A little new info on WO M90
      #2547990 - 07/29/08 09:54 AM

Hi, All,

I'd posted a while back that I had ordered the Megrez 90, which was delayed in shipping due to "some changes." My dealer said (afer speaking with his WO rep) the "revised" M90 would become available "in late July or early August." (Well, the late July window is about closed, so August it is?)

I wrote an e-mail to WO inquiring about the expected changes. This is WO's exact reply I received today (7/29):

"M90 will have absolutely the same lens, but different tube with removable L-bracket."

No mention of delivery dates or any other info, so...

I then just sent a further e-mail to WO asking about whether the tube color will still be white with gold trim, and if there will be any other changes to the OTA. I also asked about the F/R, but rather presume that won't change, as they said the lens is exactly the same.

I suppose this will be in keeping the M90 and the new 88 different. 88 has F/5.3 (I think); 90 is (still?) F/6.9 (published, but measured F/6.2). Also, is the 88 the same FPL-53 glass as the 90? There has to be some differences to account for the slightly lesser price of the 88. And remember, the 88 does not ship with the hard case, as the 90 does. Some one recently on CN said the 88 would be the WO's new "flagship." Don't know where the poster got that info. I rather suspect that was just a speculation pulled out of the - ahem - thin air.

Will let you know if/when I get any more info before I actually get the scope.

If any of you have more info, I'd love to hear about it.

Regards, Rod

A touch more info on the new WO M90. Following is WO's answering e-mail to my further questions on my original post above:

"Right now I can not answer your questions, because I did not see the scope yet.

We should have it in 1 or 2 weeks, after that we will update our website with pictures.

Best regards,
WO"

This WO spokesman (I did not include his name) surely must know the details of the new M90, since it's becoming available in 1-2 weeks. Or, even WO won't tell him because they don't want any details revealed until they (WO) post it on their website.

Doesn't seem like there's much interest in this subject from anyone here, but anyway, we'll soon know.

Rod

I thought the reference to WO's new flagship scope was for the M98. DOn't think the M88 will be the flagship. In reality its more likely one of their larger aperture scopes (or the M90 could probably pass:) if there has to be one!

Hi Rod.
I'm interested to know how the M90 evolves, so if you find out please pass it along.

Thanks!

The original poster of the 88 as the "flagship" may well have meant the 98, but just typoed.

The typo explanation sounds reasonable.

Thanks Rod for the continued update on the WO90.
I also have an interest in this updated version. I have been checking their site daily in anticipation to what the changes will be.
The removable foot is a nice touch. I also like the gold highlights of the current model.
Hope the focal ratio remains near the same 6.2 or 6.3 (whichever). Anyway, we should know in a few days what the straight scoop is..... (hopefully).
