Hi everyone. I have a Celestron C6-S GT scope with a CG-5 mount and a nexstar hand control. I'm trying to start autoguiding but I've been having a hell of a time connecting my telescope to my computer. I'm using PHD guiding and have a cable that connects my comp's serial port to the bottom of the hand control. So here's what happens:
1) I click the telescope button and select my model of scope.
2) I select the correct com port
3) When I press ok, it gives me "ASCOM driver failed when checking pulse guide".
4) This can't be a general connection issue. When I disconnect the hand control and repeat steps 1 and 2, it just gives me a "problem during connection error".
If anyone could please help me figure out what's going on, that would be great! Thanks!

What ASCOM Celestron driver version do yo have? Pulse guiding wasn't supported until version 5. You can see the vesion when you click the "Properties" button on the ASCOM telescope chooser panel. If your ASCOM platform version is pre-5.0, you will need to update it too. You can download the ASCOM platform from here:
http://ascom-standards.org/index.htm
and then you can download the version 5.0.10 Celestron Unified drivers from here:
http://ascom-standards.org/Downloads/ScopeDrivers.htm
Also, there are a couple of other important points. Your hand controller version has to be 1.6 or later. You need to select a telescope model that allows pulse guiding, such as the CGE or Advance GT models. You must select an EQ track mode (EQ N or EQ S depending on your hemisphere). These settings are all made on the Properties page. There's a more detailed settings page that is only accessible after you connect to the telescope - sorry, I don't remember exactly how to get to it - but one of the settings on that page is "CanPulseGuide". That checkbox must be checked, but it should be checked by default if you select one of the pulse guide capable models and an equatorial track mode.

I checked and I have the 4.10 version of the hand controller, and the most recent ascom drivers. I might also note that with the cable I'm using I was unable to update the hand controller. It may be the cable itself. I have a new one coming on thursday, but I'll keep you posted to see if that one works any better. Thanks!

I had the same problem and it was the serial to usb cable and drivers for that , once I got the Celestron recomended one and updated my ASCOM and Celestron ASCOM drivers it all worked fine.
