Meade and The Sharing the Sky Foundation

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MEADE TELESCOPE AWARDED TO LONG LAKE, NY RESIDENT, STEPHEN DURHAM

The National Sharing the Sky Foundation (NSSF) has as its main goal to inspire people to simply look up and want to learn more about the night sky. One of the ways this is accomplished is to award telescopes to astronomers and astronomy groups that have the ability and the enthusiasm to help carry on this message. The
NSSF is able to do this through the generosity of Meade Instruments.

The National Sharing the Sky Foundation is an accepted 501(c)3 organization. For more information please visit the website: www.sharingthesky.org

Stephen Durham was chosen for this honor, because of his location and contacts in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. This is a predominantly dark sky area, which has a need for a public astronomical viewing program.

Amateur Astronomer, Stephen Durham, has agreed to house, maintain and share a portable 12 Inch SCT Telescope, donated by Meade Instruments Corporation of California.
According to Stephen, “ I am flattered and honored by this presentation and intend to do all I can to live up to the expectations and mission statement of The Sharing the Sky Foundation, “to inspire people, especially children, with the magic and beauty of the night sky”. He continues, “ I cannot do this alone, and hope to work closely with the folks at the Adirondack Public Observatory Organization in Tupper Lake, NY to reach as many people as possible”.

UPS just left, the scope is "in the house"

It's nice to see Meade still in there supporting the hobby, despite its troubles.
