Chris, this may be a little late since I did not look at your shot of the Dumbbell until today, but you should be able to get a better shot. You might want to list your setup detail and camera settings the next time you capture your view and tell me what you are viewing with and if the captured shot is as good as what you were seeing on the screen. With a 12.5 inch Dob, I get very good definition of the boundaries of the bow tie and some red runs through the object that are impressive. Would like to see that you get about the same quality. Part of this might by you LCD screen. My Sanyo CRT delivers very well and I don't know how the other LCD screens compare...mine does not do as well as the CRT. Let me know.

Hi Roland, I moved the post to here to keep the discussion seprate.
The camera settings for both M27 & M57 where the recommended settings on the sheet provided by Rock for DSOs. The time was set 56sec using the MFR-3 with two 10mm rings mounted on my CPC800 without a wedge. I had the S-video hooked up to my Specto and the composit hoked up to the Archos which did the recording.

OK. That sounds right. What about the view you remember on the screen as opposed to the view you posted? Also look at the link I have provided and notice the red "lines that penetrate the interior of the bow tie and also notice the boundaries of the outer shell. You should be able to see both features pretty easily in the midst of a steady star field. You may have to up the AGC a little and reduce your integration time to get the steady star field sharpen up the edges of the object. If this does happen, then you also have an indicator that a little less integration time will produce a better shot. Let me know. If my contrast seems better, don't mind that...it is a natural result of studying an object and then sketching it. But you should still see the same qualities I am suggesting with a little less contrast.
Maybe some others can add their single frame (unstacked) shots of M27 to compare too also.

The view in the Spectro was better, then the image.
I will have to try that as well as setting my 102ED on the CG5 to elimenate star trails. I'm off to Dallas for a week so it'll have to wait till I get back, and clear skies of course Thanks for help Roland.
