Here is a sketch I made of M18 last night between 23.30 and 0.00 local time. When I observed the Sagittarius Messiers last year two open clusters caught my attention; M18 and M21. I think M18 looks like a buoy or a U with a big 1 inside (if the image is rotated 45° clockwise).

The sketch has been processed in Gimp; some of the stars were made rounder and the colors were inverted.
