Any Advice on Testing Old Binoculars?
      #2552331 - 07/31/08 11:22 AM

I recently received a pair of Sans & Streiffe 7x50 (#803 Mariner) Fully Hard Coated binocs (Japan) that my father said he stuck in his closet back in the 1970s. They appear in excellent condition. There is a focus on both eye pieces (no central focus).

It's been cloudy and rainy here (monsoon season), so I haven't had a chance to sweep the night skies with them. In daylight, viewing spots on a far wall, the optics do not appear sharp to the edge of the FOV.

I would like to perform a few simple indoor tests on the optics, in order to get a feel for their potential.

Any recommendations, or can anyone point me to a link or article with some tips?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

See the Best Of Links - Testing Binoculars, for many suggestions.
