Hello:
Well, I am planning to buy a 8" SCT. Finally I have decided not to go for the 9.25 because of the size and weight, I prefer something more portable. On the other hand, I am a pure visual amateur astronomer, and I do not have intention of doing astrophotography in the future. I am a tired of using GEM mounts, they takes time to allign and also sometimes the tube takes positions that are difficult for me to observe.
For these reasons I have put my eyes in the CPC800, I suppose that will be easy and quick to allign it, and of course the position to observe will be more friendly. What I don´t know is how precise is with the tracking??.
I would like to know your opinions of this telescope, I think will be very confortable to use (in comparison with a GEM).
My idea is to put on the 8" SCT a TV76 in piggy-back. Is it possible? Anyone has done it?. Where could I get the accesories to attach the TV76 to the C8? would it be neccessary a system of weights to balance the scope with this combo?
How do you see this combination? The TV76 for wide fields and the C8 for more detailed and planetary views?
Thanks a lot,
Alex

The TV 76 is certainly workable atop a CPC800. A top dovetail, rings and, shoes would be needed, and as you suspected, counterweights for the C8 would be necessary.
Astronomics and other vendors have the items you'll need.
I sometimes piggyback my WO 80mm on top of my N11 for the same reason - views different from the main OTA..

As far as tracking goes...all I can say is that my new CPC1100 which I have only had out under the stars a few times but it sure did not give me any indication that it may not be tracking well... I also use a single arm 8i which has been pier mounted the last 2 years in my observatory (CPC will replace it shortly)..BUT I have tested tracking with the 8i and it kept Jupiter in the FOV for almost 4 solid hours a couple of weeks ago BEFORE it was my bedtime and I had to put the scope to bed...
I would not be concerned at all about tracking...once you get the"hang" of the scope it will track..especially with worm gers doign the driving instead of my 8i's spur gear setup...

What Bob said. Celestron and Meade both have the alt-az tracking algorithms pretty much down. Both will track for hours at high power, no problem at all. You'll need weights on the bottom of the OTA to balance the TV76.
