I may have asked this before, but I'm still trolling for that elusive answer to my question: what software/hardware does one use to guide a scope formerly known as the RCX 400?
Even after wasting hours on PEC training I still can't get round stars on my AP pictures. They look like little half-moons or boomerangs on any exposure longer than 20 seconds...

Camera plane not parallel to the focal plane? boomerangs sounds like coma, which in our scope there should not be!

People dont like when I stick up for Meade but they're just jealous of my RCX

Joseph, I'm absolutely certain the bad stars were due to tracking errors on the mount, possibly coupled with vibration-induced artifact production. This scope has no coma, that I have ever been able to detect.
Bill, I'll have to see if I kept any of the images - I usually trash the bad ones immediately.

Are you using a polar mount (wedge) or alt/az mount?
Guiding problems are usually stars with trails. half-moon is usually some sort of collimation problem but we really need to see some of the pics to analyze.

I finally found an updated ASCOM driver for the RCX I want to try with PHD guiding, but it will have to wait until the crummy summer weather improves...

Have you tried Andrew Johansen's My Scope Pec Editor or Pempro to analyze your scopes performance?

I hear great things about PemPro - will have to give it a whirl.
