Hi Kerry:

I like your pier extension. It looks like it's made out of aluminum. What diameter and wall thickness are you using? Did you machine end plugs to adapt it to the tripod?

Curious,

Michael

Yes.

No. It's originally the Orion pier extension with the steel( ) center. I made several aluminum versions with the same O.D. as the Orion (4" I believe), but with a thicker wall. (5\16ths)

Hi Kerry,

Great looking project. Any pictures on your extension and how it was made? I am moving my Vixen GP from a tripod to a stationary stand and looking at an extension similar to yours.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Kerry:

I've ordered some aluminum to make my own extension. I'm trying for a lighter version with 1/8" walls, 3" in diameter with 1" thick aluminum plugs in each end. If I need a thicker aluminum tube, I'll add it later. I'm shooting for a slightly lighter rig than yours for my 4" refractor, and I'm trying to make it grab-n-go.

I also like what you did with your 12" videograph, and I'm planning on truss-izing my 10" Newtonian at some point.
