In some scopes/focusers, there is not quite enough out-travel to permit the Ethos 8 to come to focus in 2" mode with the EP seated properly (i.e. all the way) into the focuser. Tele Vue does offer a fix to this problem - a 2" Eyepiece barrel extension (part EBX-2120, retail price $25). This extension threads into the filter threads of the eyepiece's 2" skirt and extends it's length by an inch and a quarter, or about a half-inch below the bottom of the eyepiece's optical train.
It DOES seamlessly fix the original problem of permitting the E8 to come to focus within the out-travel capacity of the focuser.
HOWEVER, IT DOES CREATE ONE FURTHER LITTLE BUGABOO: With the extension threaded onto the eyepiece, it is nearly impossible to get the bottom endcap off the eyepiece, at least for anyone with adult-size fingers. This obviously makes it problematic to simply leave the extender always threaded on the eyepiece.
SOLUTION: When you buy the EBX-2120 barrel extension, ALSO purchase a regular 2" eyepiece endcap, the same as used for the top objective lens of the Ethos 8. It fits perfectly over the bottom end of the barrel extension, end-of-problem.

....Or any other 2" eyepiece cap.Over the years I have accumulated a lot of "STUFF" arrant eyepiece caps, both 1.25 and 2" seem to abound....Like the single socks that build up,that you can't find the other match for ...so I just rummage through the eyepiece cap junk drawer, and viola I always seem to come up with one,but absent of that arrant eyepiece cap drawer, then yes a 2" cap is a must when using either of the Ethos with the 2" extender, that for me,facilitates 2" filter use only, as I have no problem with either of the E's coming to focus.
Clear skies.

The extension and 2" cap is the same solution for the woes of the N12T4 EP. Great to know it works on the E8 also. Thanks for posting.

Chris,
Where were you able to buy the extra endcap? I can't seem to find it available on the Astronomics website.

If you want the TeleVue logo 2" endcaps, you can purchase them either directly from TeleVue (call them @845 469 4551 9am-5pm EST M-F), or order them through a brick-and-mortar TeleVue dealer (what I did a couple of times I've needed them).
However, as DeepSpaceTour indicated above, usually generic 2" endcaps will also fit just as well. Since the 2" bottom end cap arrangement on the extender is not a standard part of the original equipment on the Ethos 8, then so long as you keep the original bottom end cap stored safely away where you can find it, you needn't worry about the issue of not having the original end caps if you someday were to want to resell your Ethos 8 to preserve its max. resale value.
HERE'S A SOURCE FOR GENERIC 2" ENDCAPS:

To follow up, I just bought some extra 2" reversible end caps from TeleVue. They charge $2 apiece plus $3 shipping. Scopestuff.com also has the EYC2. They charge $3 for that endcap, including shipping, but there's a $10 minimum order. I have both types and like the TeleVue endcap better as it's longer and thus stays on better, plus its interchangeable with my other 2" TV endcaps.
